On November 2nd, SunDance team members gathered for an impactful morning of community cleanup as part of The Clean Earth Challenge. With our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, we joined forces to make a difference by collecting litter around our facility and nearby areas, helping keep our community cleaner and healthier.
Equipped with protective gloves, buckets, and grabbers provided by SunDance, our volunteers spread out around the neighborhood to tackle litter in high-traffic areas. Our location near busy Orange Blossom Trail sees significant vehicular and foot traffic, which often results in an unfortunate buildup of trash around our community. This accumulation not only detracts from the beauty of our surroundings but also poses a risk of polluting nearby waterways, as any litter around our community can potentially enter local drainage systems and retention ponds.
A Productive Morning of Giving Back
Starting bright and early, our team took to the streets, cleaning up litter across nearby roads, parking lots, and businesses. Despite the early hour, our volunteers were enthusiastic and committed to doing their part for the environment. Throughout the morning, they tackled discarded items ranging from plastic wrappers and cans to cigarette butts and paper products. Thanks to their hard work, we collected over 36 pounds of trash in just a few hours!
In the spirit of fun, we held a competition for our volunteers to see who could find the oddest piece of litter in our industrial neighborhood. A variety of oddities were found throughout the event, including a Chef Boyardee can, a broken sandal, and socks. The group voted, and a stuffed squirrel dog toy won the prize for the oddest item found during the event.
Every bit of trash we collected will be logged and counted toward The Clean Earth Challenge’s national goal of picking up 1 million individual pieces of litter. Noticing the difference we made firsthand was a reminder of how important it is to keep our community spaces clean and to protect the natural environment around us.
